Spring The Beginning
Originally uploaded by Ken Loo.
Kindergarden will start next week. But sakura might not last till next week. So, took the kids to the kindergarden yesterday and took some pictures. While taking photos at the gate, Erin's teacher arrived and she opened the gate and allowed us to go in to take photos at the ground.
Last year, whenever Erin went to kindergarden, Karin had been wanting to go to kindergarden. For some reason she could not understand though had to obey, she played with her brother at home. And when her big sis came home, Erin would repeat whatever she learned and acted like teacher, then Karin followed. She has been well trained to do it before kindergarden starts.
Last month, we told her when sakura blossoms, she will be going to kindergarden as well. Yesterday she was disappointed, "Why nobody comes?"
Doting father just wanted to take a photo for your first beginning of schooling, that's why.
The So-called Random Thoughts About Chinese
Thursday, April 6, 2006
I happened to come across a few RSS by reporters from mainland China who seem to be very active bloggers and good writers — well they do that for living. The trend is, in a same press, many of them have been writing on the net with handles but mentioning their publishers publicly. Blog has changed the Chinese society, not only China though. Even there seem rather odd restriction there, they speak out, they speak up. It's not like one person or two, in fact the whole bunch of people.
The Qin's Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses. According to Massage Milk's interview with this person name Chen Jingyuen, there is no proof at all that Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses belongs to Qin (His first blog about Chen was here, One Man War). But no one seems to give a proper reason. And now it has become a fact known by the world that it belongs to Qin. Mr Chen wanted to voice his opinion in some academic magazine with his own research but was rejected by the academic world. He has been keeping the research for decades. Of course, his writing will not allowed to be published until now. It will turn the government and the academic world's to no face. The reason why he is interested in Terra-cotta is because since he was a student, he has been traveling around the place and is very familiar with its geography. His research started not with any proof, but with doubt and questions.
What many young Chinese learn at school about Qin, for example given by MM, for someone who unified Chinese writing system, who created measurement standard, and road system, would he allow the Terra-cotta's cars and passages to have all kind of sizes and measurements?
All the secrets lies in Chinese politics in the year of 1974, cultural revolution.
Weekend With An Ex-colleague
Sunday, April 9, 2006
Yesterday, one of my ex-colleagues came over for lunch. We had homemade noodles and a few light dishes at home. As the staff in the previous company were all around the same age and young, we used to go out together. My wife also knew them well, and we still keep in touch.
After lunch, my wife went for work, and ex-colleague stayed on till dinner time. Later I suggested to bring the kids out. So we went to a park near the station. At there, Erin met with one of her kindergarden-mates, the mother, and her younger sis as well. We greeted and my ex-colleague played with my kids, and I played with Erin's friend and her sis as well.
Busied with the kids here and there, I didn't realise that I actually let my ex-colleague unattended. But then later I said to myself, perhaps these are friends that doesn't make one feels pressured that needs to be entertained all the time when they were guests.
Or, perhaps, I myself have changed due to the way I take life with kids nowadays. That could be the reason.
On Top of the World, And A Cat
Monday, April 10, 2006
Sunday, took the kids to Shinjuku, we were at Tokyo Metropolitan Government office's Observatory Tower. Looked at the window, Tokyo really looks messy and crowded. It's full of buildings and buildings. Any metropolitan does give an amazing part of it; having some tourist spots which the local doesn't interested in, and only tourists crowded there. I was glad that I could let my kids ran around without worried the crowds though.
My second girl Karin couldn't see outside the window, so she asked me to show her the view. When put her at the edge, she suddenly turned over and meowed at me. The unidentified messages telegraphed into my eyes, only after it transmitted into my mind, a bulb started to light up.

She looked out at the window and kept meowing a couple of times. I imagined my girl must have imagined herself jumping around the skyscrapers.
